You Tube video: Evolution of the Horror Film Genre
This video shows how it has evolved and how it relates to society. It is showing how it has evolved from 1920s to the 21st century. This gives you an idea of how its changed this is due to many factors. One of these factors could be that technology has improved to enable higher quality films.

In what ways does your media product use,develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? (i.e. of film openings).
MISE EN SCENE
Costume:
The costumes that were used in this film were chosen for a reason. Miss Vicini shown in the nine frames above, is wearing casual clothes as she is a murderer but we don't want her to look like a murderer we just wanted her to look like a normal teenager. She is wearing a red jumper this jumper was chosen to connote blood, danger and death. These are all connotations of horror and murder. Mr Vicini is not shown in these nine frames but he is wearing, black trousers, white shirt and a black tie. The black represents death and the white represents purity. We have put purity and death together because he looks like he is harmless from the outside but inside he is actually from a family with a murderer in who we works with.
Lighting:
Most of the lighting used in this film opening is natural light which is high key. We have chosen natural lighting because it is mostly outdoors and we didn't need to alter the lighting because the natural lighting worked well with the acting.
Setting:
The setting of this film opening is at a house in a quiet neighbourhood. We chose this location because we got inspired by the film, The Stepfather and the location for that film was a neighbourhood. We also thought again that we wanted the murderer to move into a normal neighbourhood and not be noticed as being a murderer.
Props:
The props we used were: Highlighter, newspaper, knife, carrot, bin bag, football, post-it notes.The main prop that links to horror is a knife, we chose to use a knife to link with the connotations of horror, violence and death. For the audience seeing a knife and it being used quite violently will make them think of horror or threat.
CAMERA WORK
Shots:
We used an over the shoulder shot when Miss Vicini was looking at the post-it note to allow the audience to see what Miss Vicni was seeing from her point of view.
Movement:
We used a pan, the camera moves from Malcolm who is looking at Miss Vicini to Miss Vicini this is showing the audience what Malcolm is looking at and that he is shocked by what he has just seen Miss Vicni do.
TITLES
Main Title:
The font used for the main title was chosen because it looks like i child may have written it with a crayon or piece of chalk. We wanted it to look like this because our initial idea for advertisement was going to be drawn by Malcolm.The writing also looks quite rough and distorted which links with the connotations of horror.
The titles throughout the film opening:
I chose to choose black and white font for these title because it links to purity and death again which i mentioned earlier in the costume section. The purity is for the Vicni family looking pure and normal from the outside but inside there is a murderer in their family.
I have put the main title at the end in big font because i have watched other film openings and Insidious Film Opening has the title in a big font and it is made to scare you because it pops up on the screen with loud sound like my title does. This shows links to other media products, opening titles to INSIDIOUS.

Vicini: Editing Stage
This shows me adding media to start to edit my film.
This shows that i have started to add my titles into the opening sequence.It also shows where i have added a dip to black transition at the start of the opening sequence.

Alterations made along the way
There have been many alterations throughout the process of making this opening of the film.
Me and Lucy in my group couldn't film at the same time and location as others in our previous group so we had to film our own film and change our characters slightly.
In our original plans we had decided for a man called Mr. Vicini to be the main character and he moves into a neighbourhood and ends up killing people but he looks like a normal character but ends up being a murderer. Due to not being able to get the actor to play Mr. Vicini we had to change our plans and change the plot and the characters.
Our plot changed to Mr. Vicni's daughter lived with him too Miss Vicini and she ends up being the murderer. When she is asked to take the rubbish out by her dad (who has left her a note as he had to go out) she actually takes a bin bag out to the bin, but it has a dead body in it of a person that she has killed. Then when she takes this bag and puts it in the bin a hand of the dead person is left hanging out of the bin and Malcolm a boy who lives in the neighborhood sees that there is a hand hanging out of the bin and then you see her dragging another body in a bag and putting it in the bin because she has killed Malcolm because he has seen her put another body in the bin and she can't risk him telling anyone else as she may get caught.
