Conventions of Horror

Setting

 

• Urban environments, dark streets and narrow, dark alleyways.
• Abandoned houses, hotels and dungeons/jails.
• Lakes, barns, dark woods, subways.

 

 

 

 

Narrative

Always a hero, a protagonist, a man or girl. Usually the hero must be there to take part in a mission or to solve problems.  There is usually an even that turns the killer insane , or by some childhood issues or bad memories.

 

Character Types





•  The main protagonist (victim/hero) of the movie.
• The villain, which is normally a monster, alien, ghost or a mutated freak.
• Scary children/ psychologically scarred children.
• Zombies or demons.
